Glimpse are pleased to announce that they are working with Nesta and Bethnal Green Ventures to accelerate beta testing of our technology.
Since 18th February, Glimpse have been taking part in the Future of News Fund. The fund was commissioned by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), in response to the Cairncross Review, and has two core aims: reimagining the engagement with, and funding of, public interest news. Glimpse are tackling the second of these.
The Cairncross Review highlighted the 50% drop in publishers’ advertising revenue between 2007 and 2017 as the market shifted away from print. In the modern digital landscape, the Review identifies numerous difficulties for publishers whose revenue is being squeezed. From this, two significant themes emerge. First, the digital advertising ecosystem has a byzantine complexity that requires publishers to hire expensive engineers in order to get a fair price for their advertising space. And second, the most detailed and valuable audience data sits with large platforms who leech much of the ad spend that used to go directly to the publishers.
To make matters more complicated, increasing public concern over online privacy is resulting in both regulatory and technical change. The General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and Google’s decision to make 3rd party cookies obsolete will almost certainly cement the dominant positions of mammoth ad platforms, and continue to weaken publishers.
In this flux, there is an opportunity for publishers to claw back some of their previous control as the industry and supply chain reimagine how consumer privacy should be maintained while delivering digital ads.
Glimpse’s unique architecture is designed to address the commercial and privacy challenges described above. Over the next four months, we will be working with UK publishers to refine our onboarding process, demonstrate compliance against privacy laws, and show the potential for higher yields outside the constraints of the current ecosystem.
We are always expanding our partnerships for working on beta tests. Please get in touch if you are interested in collaborating with Glimpse in our forthcoming trials.
